Patch combines climate expertise, environmental market data and AI-native software to help enterprise sustainability teams source, diligence, purchase and manage environmental resources, including carbon credits, renewable energy certificates and sustainable fuel certificates.
At Patch’s 2021 seed announcement, Jeff Jordan, then an a16z managing partner, highlighted the opportunity to make carbon removal part of companies’ core processes by bringing supply together behind an easy-to-use API.
That initial thesis centered on reducing the work required to find and procure carbon removal. Patch has since expanded its approach to combine embedded climate expertise, environmental market data and AI-native software for enterprise procurement.
Patch began in 2020 with an API and carbon-credit marketplace connecting businesses with climate projects. Co-founders Brennan Spellacy and Aaron Grunfeld set out to make climate action easier to integrate into business.

Brennan Spellacy said Patch had hired people who emailed or messaged him directly. The common thread was a concise reason for wanting to join Patch and an offer to meet live.
In a 2024 recruiting post, Brennan Spellacy described integrity teammates with backgrounds in chemical engineering, commodities and environmental science, while seeking technical generalists to join them.
The Software Engineer role owns work from an ambiguous user need through design, rollout, monitoring and iteration. The engineer works directly with climate strategists and commercial teams to build systems they use.
Patch says it offers competitive equity to all employees, giving teammates a stake in what they build together.
The Embedded Climate Strategist works with sustainability leaders, procurement teams and executives on climate claims, carbon budgets and project diligence, translating technical findings into practical plans.
The careers page lists flexible paid time off and parental leave. It also offers health and wellness stipends to support body and mind.
This role calls for working from the San Francisco or London office at least three days a week. Attendance requirements depend on the opening; check the role’s full description.

Patch’s published values connect the team’s shared success with its climate mission.
The Market Intelligence engineering opening emphasizes validation, provenance, freshness tracking and monitoring. The role builds AI research tools and production data systems for colleagues across Patch.
