Valon builds ValonOS, software that brings mortgage data, payments and servicing workflows into one system of record.
We backed a team combining mortgage expertise with the ability to turn complex regulation into modern software. Our February 2021 investment memo argued that rebuilding servicing from the ground up could give homeowners clearer information and better support throughout the life of a mortgage.
The thesis centered on three capabilities: understanding consumer-finance regulation, translating it into adaptable code, and earning the trust of mortgage institutions. Andrew Wang brought mortgage-investing experience; the founding team brought product and engineering expertise. Today, Valon is focused on bringing the resulting platform, ValonOS, to other servicers.
Founded in 2019, Valon built and operated a mortgage servicer to learn the details of payments, escrow and compliance firsthand. That work became the foundation for ValonOS.

In August 2026, Andrew Wang and Jake Mintz described temporarily withholding AI access from new non-engineering hires until a manager confirms they can detect incorrect answers. The learning plan includes individual mentorship and hands-on work. Engineers retain access from day one.

In a conversation led by CPO Jake Mintz, Valon designers describe Foundry: a component registry and rules connecting design tokens to the codebase. Their evolving design playbook gives product managers and engineering leads shared context before a designer joins the work.
Valon turns recurring lessons from pull-request discussions into a library of review rules. Each rule links back to the original discussion and is checked against the current codebase. The team published its mining pipeline as open source.

In their February 2026 account, Andrew Wang and Linda Du describe a recurring loop: operators encountered an edge case, engineering changed the data model or workflow, and operators tried again. They say that collaboration now extends to software customers.
