THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Training & Technical Documentation Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop world-class technical documentation and training programs supporting advanced defense systems for the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations. This role combines technical writing, instructional systems design, and military training expertise to ensure operators, maintainers, and government customers receive clear, accurate, and mission-ready documentation.

As the owner of our technical publications and training curriculum, you will work closely with Engineering, Test & Evaluation, Program Management, Product, and military customers to translate complex technical information into formal documentation and instructional materials that meet U.S. military specifications and NATO STANAG standards.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical publications supporting advanced defense systems throughout their lifecycle.
• Author Operator Manuals, Technical Manuals (TMs), Maintenance Manuals, Field Service Guides, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quick Reference Guides, training materials, and proficiency tests.
• Design and develop end-to-end training curriculum for operators, maintainers, instructors, and government personnel.
• Build and conduct instructor-led, classroom, field, and hands-on training programs for U.S. military and allied customers
• Ensure all documentation complies with applicable U.S. Department of Defense military standards, NATO STANAG requirements, and customer documentation specifications.
• Partner closely with Engineering, Test & Evaluation, Product Management, and Program Management to translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation.
• Participate in system integration activities, customer demonstrations, operational testing, and field events to validate technical documentation and training effectiveness.
• Develop training plans, lesson plans, student guides, instructor guides, practical exercises, examinations, and certification materials.
• Manage documentation configuration control, revision history, and release processes throughout the product lifecycle.
• Support customer acceptance testing, fielding activities, and new equipment training events.
• Incorporate lessons learned to continuously improve documentation standards, training methodologies, and knowledge management processes across the organization.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Education, Military Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent military experience.
• 5+ years of experience developing technical documentation, military training programs, or technical publications supporting defense systems.
• Experience authoring formal technical documentation for the U.S. Department of Defense or defense industry.
• Strong understanding of U.S. military documentation standards and technical publication development.
• Experience developing instructor-led training, maintenance training, or operator certification programs.
• Familiarity with NATO STANAG documentation and interoperability standards.
• Exceptional technical writing, editing, and document management skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, systems architecture, and complex technical information.
• Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Program Management, Product, and military customers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
• Ability to travel 25%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior military experience as a trainer, instructor, technical writer, or doctrine developer.
• Experience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), Technical Orders (TOs), or military technical publications.
• Knowledge of MIL-STDs, S1000D, MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD-38784, and other military technical publication standards.
• Experience supporting Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, SOCOM, or allied military programs.
• Background supporting autonomous systems, munition systems, robotics, aerospace, or other complex defense platforms.
• Experience delivering customer training during fielding, operational testing, or new equipment training (NET) events.
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), eLearning development tools, and instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAT, or equivalent).
• Experience working within a high-growth defense technology company or rapidly scaling manufacturing organization.
