THE ROLE
As the Head of Communications, you will define and lead our communications strategy across internal, external, executive, and corporate channels. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will shape the company's voice, elevate our brand, and ensure clear, consistent messaging as we scale. This is a highly visible leadership role with the opportunity to build and mature the communications function from the ground up.
You'll partner closely with leaders across executive leadership, engineering, recruiting, government affairs, business development, and marketing to translate complex technologies and mission-critical initiatives into compelling stories for employees, customers, partners, investors, media, and government stakeholders. Success in this role requires a strategic thinker who is equally comfortable developing long-term communications strategies and executing high-impact initiatives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
One of your first major priorities will be leading our transition out of stealth mode. Within your first 60 days, you will develop and execute the communications strategy that introduces our company, mission, technology, and vision to global markets, establishing the foundation for our public brand and long-term reputation.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop and execute overall communications strategy, ensuring alignment with company objectives and long-term growth.
- Serve as the primary owner of external corporate messaging, including press releases, company announcements, executive communications, and thought leadership.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, industry analysts, and strategic partners.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop speeches, presentations, talking points, interviews, and public appearances.
- Lead internal communications to keep employees informed, aligned, and engaged during periods of rapid growth.
- Collaborate with recruiting and employer branding efforts to strengthen reputation as an employer of choice.
- Develop crisis communications plans and serve as a communications advisor during sensitive or high-profile situations.
- Create messaging that effectively communicates complex technical products and capabilities to customers, partners, government stakeholders, and the public.
- Establish editorial calendars and oversee content development across web, social media, blogs, videos, newsletters, and executive channels.
- Ensure brand consistency across all communications and customer touchpoints.
- Monitor media coverage, industry trends, and competitor messaging to identify opportunities and potential risks.
- Build and manage external agencies, contractors, and future communications team members as the organization scales.
- Define KPIs and regularly measure the effectiveness of communications initiatives using data and analytics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, executive communications, or related fields.
- Experience developing communications strategies for high-growth technology, aerospace, defense, robotics, manufacturing, or industrial organizations.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with experience tailoring messaging for technical and executive audiences.
- Demonstrated success managing media relations and securing meaningful press coverage.
- Experience advising C-level executives and developing executive communications.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organization.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment where priorities evolve quickly.
- Work Authorization: Due to the nature of our work and U.S. export control regulations, applicants must qualify as a U.S. Person under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in the defense, aerospace, autonomous systems, robotics, national security, or advanced manufacturing industries.
- Experience supporting organizations operating in stealth mode or highly confidential environments.
- Familiarity with government communications, federal contracting, or national security-related messaging.
- Knowledge of social media strategy, digital content development, SEO, and analytics.
- Experience developing and executing communications strategies across U.S., European, and Middle Eastern markets.
- Experience managing agencies, public relations firms, and creative vendors.
- Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field.
Salary Range: 200,000 - 325,000 plus equity and benefits
